The rich history between TCU and Van Cliburn goes beyond TCU being the home of the early years of the Cliburn Competition.
Since 1962, Cliburn winners and contestants have engaged with TCU through performances, teaching classes, and even joining the School of Music Faculty (Steven de Groote and José Feghali).

In 1981, TCU Piano Professor Tamas Ungar created the Van Cliburn Institute (now known as Piano Texas) to serve as the educational arm of the Cliburn Competition. This collaboration brings Cliburn jury members and competitors to TCU to teach master classes and perform.
Since 1991, TCU has been home to the Van Cliburn historical archives.
With the opening of TCU’s Van Cliburn Concert Hall in 2020, TCU will host the preliminary rounds of the quadrennial competition and concerts and performances affiliated with the Cliburn Foundation.
Van Cliburn awarding José Feghali first place at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 1985. He went on to be a piano instructor at TCU until his passing in 2014.
